If you want to learn DJing you're in the right place! Let's get it.
Stuff You Need
A laptop or computer.
A DJ board - The FLX4 is a great starter board and has everything you need. It also translates pretty well to club setups. Cost - $300. You could also start with the FLX2 (1 step under the FLX4) but it is missing some capabilities that are very useful. The FLX2 is about $190.
Software - I use Rekordbox and love it! The FLX boards come with the software when you purchase them.
Music / audio files - You need actual audio files to be able to DJ. It is best to have MP3 320kbps or WAV files as these will be good enough quality for bigger speaker systems. You can download these on Beatport, iTunes, Bandcamp, and often through direct download links on SoundCloud. You can also use a YouTube or SoundCloud converter to get the files for free, but these will be lower quality because the platforms store them natively that way to save server space. If you are just DJing for fun, the quality is not as much of a problem. If you want to DJ actual gigs on a bigger speaker systems, using lower quality files becomes a problem (the low quality is far more noticeable on bigger systems).
Starting Off
Dive in and be curious! YouTube is an incredible tool for learning how to DJ, and it's how I spent a lot of my earlier days picking the skills up. I liked DJ Carlo's videos. It will probably be confusing and a little frustrating at first. THAT IS OK! Take the time to do a little bit every day and you will find yourself improving :)
